Description
This is a detached cottage located in Fonthill Gifford, dating from around 1700. It is built from dressed limestone and features a thatched roof with gable end stacks made of brick and stone. The cottage is single storey with an attic and has three windows on the front. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door set within a porch supported by beaded posts, with three-light casements on either side. There are three eyebrow dormers above, each containing two-light casements.
To the right of the main structure is a single storey extension that has a blocked doorway, as well as three-light and two-light casements, and a planked door to the right. The rear of the cottage features a central six-panelled door topped with a flat wooden hood supported by posts, flanked by two-light casements. There are also two eyebrow dormers at the rear, one with a two-light casement to the left and another with a two-light cyma-moulded mullioned casement to the right. Above the door, there is a small leaded light.
On the left side of the cottage, there is a lean-to outhouse. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in November 1985.
