Description

The gate piers to Fonthill Park, located in Fonthill Gifford, are likely from the early 19th century. They are constructed of vermiculated limestone and feature corniced capping with short plinths that may have supported missing finials. On either side of the gate piers are short vermiculated walls with square vermiculated end piers. The wooden gates once led to a carriage drive at the site of Fonthill Splendens. These structures were probably built during the time George Mortimer lived in one of the rebuilt pavilions of Splendens.
