Description

Yew Tree Cottage is a Grade II listed building that consists of three cottages now combined into one house. It dates from the late 17th century, with extensions added in the 18th century and the 1970s. The original 17th-century structure is built of dressed limestone with brick dressings and some chalk block, while the 18th-century section features cob and is partly rendered. The building has a thatched roof with brick stacks and a gable end facing the road.

The cottage is two stories high and has a three-window south front. There is a 20th-century porch to the left and a 2-light casement window to the right of the 18th-century part. The earlier section has three 2-light casements, with the center one located in a blocked doorway. On the first floor, there is a 2-light casement to the left and both a 2-light and a 3-light casement to the right. The right side of the building features a 20th-century lean-to porch and shows evidence of an earlier lower roofline.

To the left of the front, there is a 1979 addition that is not of special interest. The rear of the cottage includes a 3-light casement and an inserted 20th-century door in the 17th-century part, along with two 2-light casements and two single-light casements in the 18th-century section. There is also a brick eyebrow dormer with a 2-light casement on the left and a combination of a 3-light and three 2-light casements on the first floor to the right.

Inside, the cottage features a chamfered beam with stepped stops and a partly blocked open fireplace that has a chamfered cambered lintel on chamfered stone jambs located at the west end of the 17th-century part.
