Description
The Thatch is a Grade II listed building that consists of two cottages, which have been combined into one. It likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some later alterations. The structure features a sandstone plinth and a timber frame with plaster infill, topped with thatched roofs and end stacks that have brick shafts. The building has a rectangular plan, probably consisting of three bays on one side and two on the other, and is aligned east to west. It is one storey high with an attic.
On the north elevation, there are two windows, each with two-light early 20th-century casements set in an eyebrow, corresponding to the former cottages. The ground floor has two casements with two lights on the left side and one on the right. At the junction of the two cottages, there is a thatched catslide porch with a ledged door. The timber frame consists of three square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate and features angle struts on some of the wall-posts. The interior was inaccessible during the last survey in July 1986.
