Description
Whitehall Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with 18th-century additions and 20th-century alterations, located on Whitehall Road in Hampton Bishop. The building is constructed of rendered brick and sandstone ashlar, topped with a slate roof. It has an irregular former L-shaped plan, with later extensions added to the west and at the angle of the L. The entrance is on the south side, with lateral stacks positioned to the north and east. The farmhouse stands two storeys high, with an attic and cellar.
The south front features a slightly projecting section to the left, which has a shallow pitch, a string course, and plain pilasters, along with two glazing bar sash windows. There is a 20th-century porch at the ground floor. To the right, the section has a steep roof pitch and also contains two glazing bar sash windows, along with a 20th-century gabled projection at the ground floor. The rear reveals English bond brickwork. Inside, the farmhouse retains a fine staircase with turned balusters and square newels, as well as several 17th-century battened doors on the upper floor.
