Description
High Trees is a 17th-century vicarage that has been converted into a house, with later alterations. It features a moulded sandstone plinth and is constructed from brick, topped with Welsh slate and tiled roofs. The building has brick stacks and a rectangular plan that is aligned north-west to south-east, with a central projection above the former entrance.
On the ground floor, there are early 19th-century glazing bar sash windows with box shutters on either side of a 20th-century window, which is set in a late 18th-century or early 19th-century doorcase that includes an architrave and guttae. The first floor has an early 19th-century central glazing bar sash, flanked by two fixed-light 20th-century windows featuring glazing bars. The second floor includes a central 19th-century glazing bar sash and two undivided 20th-century plate glass windows. Gabled dormers each have segmentally headed early 19th-century sashes. The lower three storeys are divided by two brick plat bands, and the window heads are made of gauged bricks. There are outlines of blocked window openings on either side of the central projection.
The west elevation displays two large stacks with applied pilasters, while the north elevation features 2-light mullioned and transomed windows. Attached to the south is a four-bay late 18th-century outbuilding with a tiled roof. Inside, there is a ledged 17th-century door leading to the attic and mullioned and transomed 2-light windows that are blocked externally on the north and south gables. The late 18th-century outbuilding has trusses with collars that carry V-struts.
