Description
Boons Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the late 17th century. It features square-panelled timber-framing and a half-hipped thatched roof, with an axial brick stack. The cottage has a baffle-entry design and consists of three bays. It is two storeys high and has two windows on the front. The central entrance is a planked door, with a two-light casement window on either side. The first floor has two additional two-light casements.
On the right side, there is a three-light casement on both the ground and first floors, as well as in the attic. The left side has one two-light casement on the first floor and attic, and a 20th-century casement on the ground floor. The rear of the cottage features an outshut that was heightened in the 19th century, with two-light casements, and a single casement on the first floor. The outshut and the timber-framing of the rear wall are covered with corrugated iron.
Inside, the north room has a large open fireplace with a chamfered lintel that has run-out stops. The south room contains a blocked fireplace, and there are chamfered ceiling beams with step and run-out stops throughout. The interior also features planked doors, and the original winding stairs have been replaced by stairs in the outshut around 1800.
