Description

Little Hawksgrove is a detached cottage dating from the mid-17th century. It features square-panelled timber-framing with straight bracing and brick infill, topped by a hipped thatched roof with a brick axial stack. The entrance is located at the rear and the cottage was originally designed with a two-room baffle entry plan. It has one storey and an attic, with a two-window entrance front. The doors on the right and left are not in their original positions, and there is a blocked central door. The ground floor windows are 2-light diamond-leaded casements, and there are two diamond-leaded casements in eyebrow dormers. The right side of the cottage has weather-boarding on the first floor, with one casement window on both the ground and first floors. The rear, facing the road, also has one storey and an attic, featuring two diamond-leaded casements on the ground floor and one in the attic dormer. To the right, there is a thatched lean-to extension with timber-framing dating from around 1700. Inside, there are central back-to-back fireplaces that were rebuilt in the 20th century, and winding stairs located to the north of the fireplace. The ground floor has chamfered beams with stops, while the first floor features planked doors. The roof is a 2-bay structure with a tie-beam and raking struts to the collar.
