Description

Milestone located below the Fox and Hounds buildings, dating from after 1814. It is made of painted sarsen stone and features a half cylindrical shaft with a widened base. The top is grooved. The original incised inscription is illegible and has been overpainted with legends indicating distances: "TO HUNGERFORD 6" on the right and "To SWINDON 11" on the left. The base also includes the inscription "LONDON 70 MILES" along with an arrow.
