Description
This milestone, located opposite Littlecote House, dates from after 1814. It is made of painted sarsen stone and features a half cylindrical shaft that is grooved at the top. The original incised inscription is now illegible, but it has been painted over with legends indicating distances: to the left, "SWINDON 13 MILES" and to the right, "HUNGERFORD 3 MILES." It is likely that the stone has been relocated from the opposite side of the carriageway and set deeper into the ground, which has obscured its base.
