Description

Chilton House Barn is an 18th-century barn featuring 18-inch brick sill walls that rise to 1.5 meters, supporting weatherboarded timber framing. It has a tiled roof and consists of 11 bays, with cart entrances located in the 4th and 8th bays. The structure includes jowled posts with tension-braced wall studs, as well as brackets supporting the ties, king posts, and struts. The midstreys have been extended by 1.5 bays to the south. Originally, there was a full partition between the 6th and 7th bays. Additionally, there are lean-to outshuts between the midstreys, all under the same roof.
