Description

The Old Rectory is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with a late 18th-century wing that incorporates a 17th-century square structure. The building features diaper brickwork with a tiled roof, while the earlier structure is made of flint with limestone quoins and narrow brick dressings. It is two stories tall with an attic and has five bays, including a central entrance that leads to a rear stair that originally projected. There are flanking reception rooms, and the entrance includes a six-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight under a Doric limestone portico. The windows are 12-pane sashes with concealed boxes and flat gauged brick heads, and there is a plat band with a top moulded lip.

The wing features a two-storey canted bay that is applied over the earlier structure, with 12-pane sashes and blind boxes on the upper floor, as well as a blind panelled parapet. The earlier building has a moulded water table and blocked windows. The house has been extended to the left by one bay, incorporating the original lean-to, with 16-pane sashes and a hipped roof on the left side. The eaves are moulded, and there are three flat casement dormers on the main structure. The right wing was extended to the rear in the early 19th century, featuring 12-pane sashes with gauged and tumbled heads and a parapet. A rear stair tower, added in the 19th century, has English bond brickwork.
