Description

Monks Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse constructed of rubble stone with a stone-tiled roof and coped gables. It features a west end stack and two ridge stacks, and is two storeys high with an attic. The building has a four-window range with mullion windows that have hoodmoulds.

On the right side, there is a one-window range of two-light recessed cyma-moulded windows, followed by a central two-window range of three-light windows, which have original ovolo-moulding above and 18th-century bead-moulding below. The central ashlar gabled porch has a shallow cambered head to the doorway, raised imposts, a keystone, and an oak plank door within a chamfered surround. The left end appears to be an addition, featuring a one-window range of plain chamfered three-light windows. The first-floor windows and the left ground floor window have leaded lights.

The right end wall includes two-light recessed cyma-moulded windows for the attic and first floor, as well as a door on the ground floor. A rear wing extends beyond the main structure, featuring a three-light upper window, a two-light window without a hoodmould, and a six-pane window below. The north gable is coped. The rear of the main range has two hipped dormers at the original eaves, along with a long catslide roof that includes a hipped two-light recessed cyma-moulded eaves dormer and a similar window below. Inside, there are Tudor-arched and bolection-moulded stone fireplaces.
