Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Monks Lane are a pair of houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, constructed of rubble stone with a stone-tiled roof and end-wall and two ridge stacks. The long south front is divided into three sections. The right-hand section has a single window, with 19th-century surrounds. The upper window is a 12-pane sash, and the lower level contains a glazed door set within the frame of a former window surround that has been cut down. The central two-window range features straight joints on either side. The upper windows are 3-light sashes; the left has an ovolo-moulded frame, and the right a recessed cyma-moulded frame. The ground floor on the left has a sash window within the surround of a former 2-light recessed cyma-moulded window, while the ground floor to the right has a 3-light ovolo-moulded window with a hoodmould. A slightly set-back range projects beyond, with a single 2-light ground floor window and its own hoodmould. A lower addition is situated beyond this. The rear of the building has been significantly altered.
