Description

Allington House is a house built in the mid 18th century and early 19th century, constructed from ashlar and rubble stone with stone-tiled roofs. It has two storeys. The front range is an early 19th-century ashlar-fronted section with a stack at the south end. This part features a three-window range of 12-pane sash windows and was formerly adorned with a tent verandah across the ground floor. The rear range dates from the mid 18th century and has a steep roof that is hipped to the south, with end wall stacks. The west front is made of ashlar and includes a platband and sill-course, with a two-window range of 12-pane sashes. A door is located to the left in a 20th-century surround with a hood, leading to a fielded panel door. The south end wall has 20th-century glazing bar windows inserted, with the upper ones featuring intersecting tracery heads. At the north end, there is a converted barn range with a coped north gable and a lean-to on the west side. Inside, there is a Tudor-arched stone fireplace in the north range and sling brace pine roof trusses on the first floor. The house was formerly known as Allington Villa.
