Description
Foxhill House is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of rubble stone and features imitation stone-tile roofs. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has an L-shaped plan, consisting of an original 17th-century range and an earlier 18th-century cross wing. The house has flush quoins, a west end stack on the cross wing, and a truncated external rear wall stack on the original range.
The house underwent significant restoration around 1980, which included the addition of 20th-century imitation stone openings on the entire entrance front. On the west front of the original range, there is a 20th-century hipped dormer. The first floor has two 2-light mullion windows, one of which is flush cyma-moulded while the other has been replaced with a 20th-century imitation stone window. The ground floor features a 3-light flush cyma-moulded window with a blocked centre light, a 20th-century door, and a 2-light window.
The 18th-century wing, which is at right angles to the original range, has a platband and sash windows in moulded surrounds. There are a pair of windows on the left and a single window on the right on each floor. The right side has a single window that replaces a moulded doorcase with a hood on brackets and a single light. The north rear wall retains one original 2-light window and, at the right end, there is one sash window in a moulded surround on each floor. The south end of the original house has a single-storey extension with a hipped roof, a chimney, and a rounded corner at the rear.
