Description

The gate lodges, piers, gates, and wall north of the east lodge at Bolehyde Manor date from the early 18th century. They are constructed of rubble stone with ashlar dressings and have stone-tiled pyramid roofs topped with ball finials. The lodges are square in plan. The west lodge has windows set within raised moulded surrounds, now containing 18-pane lights. It features an ashlar corniced stack in the north-east corner, a central window to the south front, a west-side window, and a door with a flush cyma-moulded surround. Fragments of early 19th-century painted decoration, allegedly by French prisoners-of-war, are visible inside. The east lodge includes a basement, a central south-facing window, and a door on the east side within a chamfered surround. Between the lodges are ashlar gate piers with fielded panels and corniced caps topped with ball finials. Modern iron gates are present. A length of coped garden wall extends north from the east lodge, featuring an ashlar moulded gateway and a modern iron garden gate.
