Description

WARMINSTER BOREHAM ROAD 1. 5411 (South Side) Nos 24 ("Torwood") Nos 26 to 34 (even) ST 8744 NE 7/106

  1. Probably before 1822 (VCH). Terrace of 3 storey and basement houses. Brick with incised stone pilasters at angles and between houses, full height. No 24 has a moulded cornice and brick parapet with stone coping and incised corner blocks. The remainder have flat eaves with cut brackets. Slate roof [old tile roof (butterfly type) at rear], hipped to left and over No 24; off ridge brick chimneys. Glazing bar sash windows, single hung on 2nd floor. Windows and doors have pediment shaped voussoir heads, except to No 24 2nd floor. No 24: Forms a projecting bay to right with one range of tripartite windows to left and a slight set back to right for recessed 6 panel door with plain fanlight (tracery mentioned in previous list removed) and 1 window over. Remainder: 2 ranges of windows to upper floors and 1 to ground floor. 6 panel doors with 4 pane overlights on Nos 26 to 30. Ground floor window of No 34 altered to large late C19 rectangular 9 light bay. Areas closed by cast iron railings which have dog railings looped by arrow heads to main rails.
