Description

This building is a barn, now used as stables, located approximately 12 meters southeast of Lanscombe Farm Cottages, with outhouses attached to the northwest. It dates from the 19th century, although it likely has earlier origins and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The structure is made of red cob, mostly plastered but with some exposed areas, and features a front of painted stone rubble. It has a gable-ended roof covered with Roman tiles.

The barn is designed as a threshing barn that faces southeast towards the farmyard. Its southwest end is built into the hillside. Originally, it had central opposing doors leading to the threshing floor, but both doorways are now blocked. The southwest end has a loading hatch at loft level from the terrace. The barn has been altered in the 20th century to serve as stables, with a hayloft above.

The front wall now includes two doorways for the stables. The left doorway has a loading hatch above it and flanking windows, while the right doorway features a wide five-light window above weatherboarding. Inside, there is plain carpentry detail, including a roof supported by scissor-braced trusses.

There are also two rear outhouses of mixed construction, one on each side of the blocked central doorway. This former barn, along with the other buildings in the farmyard, contributes to an exceptionally attractive group of listed buildings in a well-preserved village and the adjacent Cockington Park.
