Description
Hill Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble with a stone chimney shaft and a thatched roof. The cottage is situated across a steep slope, terraced into the hillside at the back, and faces north-east onto the lane. It has a two-room plan, with a larger room on the south-east side that features a large projecting rear lateral stack.
The exterior of the cottage is two storeys high, with a lean-to on the south-east end. The front has two windows, which are 20th-century casements with glazing bars, and the first-floor windows are half dormers. To the right of the front is a doorway with a fielded four-panel door in a solid frame, topped by a 20th-century hood. The roof is hipped at both ends.
The interior details are not available for inspection. Hill Cottage is part of a particularly attractive group of listed buildings in a well-preserved village, adjacent to Cockington Park.
