Description
Weavers Cottage is likely a 18th-century cottage, renovated in 1979 as indicated by a plaque. It is constructed of plastered cob and stone rubble, with brick chimney shafts and a thatched roof. The cottage is built down a steep slope, facing south-east, and has an L-shaped plan. The main block, running along the lane, has a two-room layout and a gable-end stack. A single-room block set at a right angle forms the rear. The front facade is irregular, featuring 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars, all of varying sizes, including a single first-floor window rising into the eaves. A central doorway contains a probable 18th-century plank door with strap hinges, an applied four-panel front, good 19th-century ironwork (ferralla), and a narrow overlight. A rustic trellis porch with a gabled thatched roof provides access. The main roof is tall and steeply pitched, gable-ended to the left and half-hipped to the right. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of listing. Weavers Cottage contributes to a particularly attractive group of listed buildings within the unspoiled village and its proximity to Cockington Park enhances its setting.
