Description
This barn, located approximately 48 metres south-east of Lanscombe Farm Cottages, dates from the 19th century but likely has earlier origins and has undergone some modernisation in the 20th century. It is constructed of plastered red cob on stone rubble footings, with some repairs in stone rubble and concrete, topped by a hipped thatch roof. The barn is built down the hillslope, facing north-west, and features central opposing doors that lead to a former threshing floor, with a rear door now accessing a secondary lean-to extension. The exterior includes nearly full-height large doorways for the threshing floor and a smaller doorway at the left (north-east) end. Inside, the barn has an open 4-bay roof supported by king post trusses. This barn, along with the other buildings in the farmyard, contributes to an exceptionally attractive group of listed buildings in a well-preserved village, adjacent to Cockington Park.
