Description

This barn, located about 25 metres southeast of George Teign Barton, is likely part of a large threshing barn and dates from the 17th century. It has undergone considerable patching and features re-roofing from the 19th or 20th century at the right end. The structure is built from cob and stone rubble, with a thatched roof on the left side, which is half-hipped at the end, and a corrugated iron roof on the right side.

The barn has a rectangular plan and is positioned below the farmhouse, oriented at right angles to the main block of the house. While the original function of the building is uncertain, it is most likely a threshing barn. The crossbeams that supported the loft floor at the left end are probably later additions. The left end features an entrance with some brick dressings that may date to the 19th century, while the right end has been largely rebuilt but retains a large doorway in the front wall with a chamfered timber lintel.

The barn is partly two storeys and partly single-storey. The left side has a thatched roof, while the right side has a corrugated iron roof of two different heights. The front is blind on the left and open-fronted on the right, with the large doorway supported by a largely brick pillar. The left end includes a doorway and a loft window. Inside, there are four side-pegged jointed cruck roof trusses at the left, with the cruck feet resting on stone rubble footings. The ridge and purlins are threaded. This barn forms a group with George Teign Barton.
