Description

The lychgate to the Church of St John the Baptist, likely built in the late 17th century or 18th century and altered in the 19th century, features a hipped slate roof supported by open timber ends. It has 19th-century timber gates and a flight of granite steps leading up to the south. Braced vertical timber posts at each end support the roof, which is additionally reinforced by 19th-century posts at the north corners. The 19th-century boarded gates have iron spike finials, with one gate removed at the time of the survey in 1986 and located in the churchyard. An 8-step flight of rough granite steps ascends from a steep path to the church. The lychgate has group value with the church.
