Description

This building is a barn and attached stables, located approximately 5 meters south of Home Farmhouse. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some later alterations. The structure is made of regularly coursed limestone and marlstone rubble, featuring alternating angle quoins that extend to the gable ends. The barn has a machine tile roof with coped verges, while the stables have a concrete tile roof.

The barn includes a wide entrance in the second bay from the left, with a segmental-arched opening on the road side. There is an inserted garage door to the right and a stone ridge stack with a dripstone and moulded capping positioned between. The stables feature a central chamfered cambered doorway, flanked by narrow rectangular windows, with the right window also being chamfered. There is a raking eaves hatch where the barn and stables meet, and a gabled dormer is located in the middle of the roof slope. A fire insurance plate is attached to the gable end.

Inside, the barn has a collar and tie beam roof supported by double butt-purlins, extending up to the stone wall aligned with the right jamb of the threshing entrance. The stables contain 19th-century cowstalls, a trough, and a cobblestone floor. The loft features a double butt-purlin roof with a central collar and tie beam truss. This building is part of a well-preserved farmyard group and is included for its group value.
