Description

Blue Row is a row of cottages located on the north side of The Lane in Chastleton, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with some minor later alterations. The cottages are constructed from regularly coursed marlstone rubble, featuring alternating angle quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a shallow-pitched slate roof. The symmetrical terrace showcases a Tudor style with plain pedimented cross wings.

The building is two storeys high and consists of a layout with one central bay flanked by five bays, where the outer bays form slightly projecting cross-wings. The first floor includes two-light mullion windows with dripstones directly beneath the eaves, and a blind rectangular opening at the center. The ground floor mirrors this with similar three-light windows in the cross-wings and outer bays of the central range. All mullions are fitted with leaded casements, some of which are latticed.

A central Tudor-arched alleyway is present, with boarded doors on either side. Stone ridge stacks are located to the left and right of the central range, with the left stack having been rebuilt in the 20th century. The boarded doors feature chamfered surrounds with dripstones on the returns.

The interior was only partially inspected during a resurvey in August 1987, revealing chamfered cross beams and joists, cast-iron grates in the fireplaces, plank doors, and 19th-century staircases.
