Description

Splatts Farmhouse and its attached outbuildings are a disused farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of roughly coursed marlstone rubble and features a concrete tile roof on the main section, while the three lower sections have pantiles, with the middle section displaying coped verges at the left gable end. The farmhouse has two storeys and a gable-lit attic on the left gable end.

The main part of the farmhouse has small casement windows with wooden lintels on either side of a central boarded door, which is sheltered by a 20th-century gabled timber porch; all windows are leaded except for the lower left one. There are integral end stacks, with the right stack featuring a moulded dripstone and capping, while the left stack extends down to the lower range. The lower range has two 19th-century leaded casements directly beneath the eaves, a small segmental-headed casement to the left of a central segmental-headed boarded door, and a 20th-century segmental-headed casement to the right, replacing an infilled doorway.

Attached to the left of the lower range, which was used as a hay-loft, is a segmental-headed window at the front, and further left is a cart shelter at the rear. Additionally, a 19th-century lean-to is attached to the right gable end of the main range, featuring a two-light leaded casement at the front. The interior could be of interest, although it was not possible to inspect it during the resurvey in August 1987.
