Pavilion In Garden East Of Bishop'S Court Hotel

The pavilion, located in the garden east of Bishop's Court Hotel, was likely built around 1844, around the same time as the hotel itself. It has a plastered exterior and a lead roof. The structure is octagonal and positioned at the end of a terraced walk within the grounds of a large villa. It features a panelled parapet above a deep projecting cornice and corner pilasters. On the west side, there is a round-headed doorway that is ovolo-moulded, complete with a faceted keyblock and a 4-panel door topped by a plain fanlight. The flanking bays contain round-headed windows, also with keyblocks, which are glazed with 3-light casements and plain fanlights, while sunk panels are located below the sills. The other bays are blind. The roof is a dome-on-tent style, adorned with fish-scale lead work and lead rolls, and it is topped with a weathervane featuring a galleon motif. Inside, the pavilion has a moulded cornice and a ribbed vaulted ceiling.
