Description

Warberry Court is a villa dating from the 1840s. The walls are cement-rendered and the roof is slate, with stacks featuring rendered shafts and oversailing cornices. The building follows a double-depth rectangular plan, with an entrance on the east return, and a lower service wing to the rear (east).

The asymmetrical, three-window east front has a projecting gabled central bay. Deep eaves are supported by paired brackets, with an eaves band, verges band, platband, and sill band. The central entrance has a six-panel door with a fanlight, set within a moulded architrave and keyblock. Round-headed windows flank the door, also with moulded architraves and keyblocks. The first floor features a cornice to the projecting gable and round-headed windows with a pilastered, moulded architrave, the centre window glazed with radial bars. The left bay of the east front has two blind windows, while the right bay has an early 19th-century twelve-pane sash and a ground-floor bay with a flat roof, a moulded cornice with parapet, and a large, high-transomed window. The south return is three bays, with ground floor windows reglazed as two-pane sashes retaining sun blind fascias. The first floor windows have been lengthened and reglazed as four-pane sashes with horizontal glazing bars. A conservatory is located at the west end.

Inside, original plasterwork, joinery, and a mahogany staircase with turned balusters are preserved. The property was shown as Warberry Lodge on an 1866 Ordnance Survey map and has group value with the separately listed stable block.
