Description
The stable block at Warberry Court, built around the 1840s, is a Grade II listed structure located on Lower Warberry Road in Torquay. The building is cement rendered with a slate roof and features stacks with rendered shafts and projecting cornices. It has an L-shaped plan that includes stabling, a carriage house, and accommodation for grooms.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical south front that has a one-window gabled wing and a two-window section. It features deep eaves and verges supported by paired and moulded brackets, along with moulded sill bands. The gable end of the wing includes a verges band and pilasters on either side. A round-headed first-floor window is adorned with a pilastered architrave and is fitted with a four-pane sash that has horizontal glazing bars.
On the right (east) side, there are two bays, which include a ground-floor stable door with an overlight, one ground-floor four-pane sash, and one first-floor four-pane sash, with one first-floor window converted into a door. The carriage house has a shallow projecting stack in the center, with the shaft extending through the eaves. It also features two first-floor and one ground-floor twelve-pane sashes, along with a carriage door on the left that has a glazed overlight.
This stable block is an unusual and relatively unaltered example in Torquay, contemporary with its villa. The interior has not been inspected.
