Description

Holmwood is a villa built between 1840 and 1841, now subdivided. It features plastered walls and a hipped slate roof, with stacks that have rendered shafts and deep projecting cornices. The building has a rectangular double-depth main range with the entrance on the west side and a service block to the north.

The villa is two storeys high with deep eaves, corner pilasters, and an eaves band. The main block has a one-window entrance front and a pedimented gable to the left, along with a shallow projecting stack to the right. There is a projecting porch supported by pilasters and an entablature. To the left, there is a single-storey bay with a 20-pane fixed window and a 12-pane sash window on the first floor. A conservatory extends across the front to the right.

The service block to the left, now in separate ownership, is three storeys tall with two windows and a square-headed doorway featuring a plain overlight. The garden elevation on the south side has a dentil eaves frieze and two shallow projecting bays with pedimented gables that contain laurel wreaths. There are later canted bays with parapets on the ground floor, glazed with 2 over 3- and 6 over 9-pane sashes. The first-floor tripartite windows have been reglazed as plate glass sashes with Venetian shutters. A five-bay verandah runs across the front, supported by timber posts and topped with a glazed roof.

The interior has undergone some alterations but still retains original joinery and plasterwork.
