Description

Watcombe Hill House is a villa believed to have been built in 1838. It features a plastered exterior and a slate hipped roof, with stacks that have rendered shafts and bracketed cornices. The overall plan is rectangular, with a double-depth main range facing south and consisting of two rooms wide. The entrance is located on the east side, leading into a corridor with a staircase, while the services are situated in the basement and to the northwest.

The building is two storeys high and has a three-window entrance elevation on the east, characterized by deep eaves, an eaves band, and a platband. The entrance features a moulded doorcase with panelled reveals, and the front door is recessed with six fielded panels and a Georgian-style fanlight above it. The ground-floor windows have moulded architraves, with a tall 16-pane sash window to the left and a smaller 12-pane window to the right. On the first floor, there are three 12-pane sash windows. To the right, a single-storey block with a parapet contains a 12-pane sash window. A timber trellis verandah with a tent roof made of asbestos sheet tiles extends around the left return, supported by plain posts.

The garden elevation, facing south, has a 1:3 window arrangement with moulded architraves. The left ground-floor window is a tall 12-pane sash, the centre window is blocked, and the right-hand window has been converted into a French window. The first floor features three 12-pane sashes, and there is a single-storey block at the left end with a tall 12-pane sash window. A 20th-century swimming pool addition is located at the left end of the property.

Inside, original features include plaster cornices, panelled doors, and a stick baluster staircase with a mahogany handrail.
