Description

Rock House is a large villa dating from the 1850s, with alterations made in the Edwardian period. The front is rendered and features a slate roof concealed behind a parapet. The parapet is embattled, with coped embrasures and merlons, and incorporates three projecting bays, the two on the left featuring two-tier canted bay windows. A moulded string runs along the first floor sill level, and a moulded cornice sits below the parapet. Most windows have dripmoulds and are high-transomed casements with glazing bars; some are small-pane sashes. A probable Edwardian projecting embattled porch features a Tudor-arched doorway. The interior retains plaster cornices and original 19th and early 20th-century joinery, including patterned white glass on the ground floor. The building has a long, rectangular plan, with the main elevation facing east. A service wing, likely later than the main block, adjoins the north end, and the entrance is on the west side.
