Description
The balustrade to the south terrace of Brunel Manor is a garden feature dating from around 1870. It consists of stone, with some sections replaced by artificial stone. The balustrade is supported by a coursed stone retaining wall and features a dressed limestone design. It is carried on 16 square piers, which include shallow pointed quatrefoil panels. The central section of the balustrade is half-circle shaped, flanked by straight runs that terminate in quadrants, extending the full width of the garden side of Brunel Manor and connecting to the south edge of the flat terrace in front of the house. The balusters are classical in style, circular in form, and the entire structure has a continuous weathered coping. The gardens were designed by Nesfield, making this balustrade an important addition to Brunel Manor.
