Description

This building is a barn, now serving as a library, located about 30 meters north of Tormarton Court. The barn is dated 1780 on its gable end and has undergone some later alterations. It is constructed of rubble with a double Roman tiled roof featuring raised coped verges, kneelers, and finials. The attached wall and gate piers are also made of rubble, topped with stone coping and ashlar piers.

The south elevation of the barn includes a cart entry with a timber lintel, a ventilation slit to the left, and two sash windows along with another ventilation slit to the right. There is a lean-to on the left side that has a door and a four-pane window. The left return features an owlhole and a datestone, with stepped stonework beneath the verges and quoins. The right return is similar, also featuring a sash window. The rear of the barn has a cart entry porch with a pitched roof made of corrugated iron, with ventilation slits on both sides and a 15-pane sash window to the left.

The attached wall, which is connected to the southeast corner of the barn, extends southward for about 100 meters and stands approximately 2 meters high. It includes a door with a keystone at the southern end and features an arc recess towards the north, flanked by two square piers with cornices and shaped tops. Taller piers are located on each side of the entrance. The interior of the barn has not been inspected.
