Description

The Smithy is a house dating from the early 19th century, and possibly incorporating an earlier building. It is constructed of limestone rubble with stone dressings and quoins, topped by a concrete double Roman tiled roof with raised coped verges. A gable stack is on the right, and a finial on the left.

The main part of the house is two and a half storeys and has two windows. These are 16-pane sashes in plain surrounds with a relieving arch and keystone. A portico with square columns and a pediment provides access to a panelled and glass door. A central 12-pane sash window is located under the eaves. To the left is a two-storey wing with garage doors, a 20th century three-light window, a blocked door with a three-pane light, and three two-light casements with flat mullions under the eaves. A single-storey block is also attached to the left, containing a 20th century garage door and a stone tiled roof. To the right is a one-and-a-half-storey wing with a door and a two-light casement on its inner side.

The rear elevation features a ground floor sash window, a first floor sash with a relieving arch, and a small central gabled dormer. A 20th century single-storey extension to the right includes French windows and a hipped roof. The interior of the property has not been inspected.
