Description
The Old School House is a building that was originally a school and is now a house. It dates from the early 19th century, with later additions and alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is made of limestone rubble with stone dressings and ashlar, topped with a stone tiled roof featuring gable and ridge stacks.
The building has two storeys and six windows, with four bays on the left side that are of an earlier date, featuring raised long and short quoins. The right side has two bays with similar quoins. On the left, there is a canted bay that rises through both storeys, made of ashlar, with three sash windows on both the ground and first floors, and a hipped roof. The right side has two 16-pane sash windows and a central 6-pane light that was formerly a door, along with three 16-pane sashes under the eaves. There is a small gabled porch on the right with a door that has raised fillets and a 4-pane fixed light at the front.
A cupola sits on the main roof, featuring bell louvres and a hipped stone tiled roof. To the right, there is a bay with a 2-light casement window with a flat mullion on both the ground and first floors, and at the far right, there is a late 20th-century bay with a garage door and a similar window on the first floor. The rear of the building has two 2-storey wings, with the right wing having a 2-span roof, and a further 2-storey flat-roofed addition on the left. The windows at the rear are all 20th-century sashes and casements with glazing bars, and there is a conservatory attached to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
