Description

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Barracks Cottages are three attached houses built in the early 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. The cottages are constructed from coursed rubble with ashlar stone dressings and quoins. No. 1 features a pantiled roof, No. 2 has a slate roof, and No. 3 is topped with an asbestos slate roof, all with gable stacks. The buildings are arranged in an L-plan, with No. 1 positioned to the north.

No. 1 is two storeys high with two windows, all of which are 2-light casements with flat mullions. It has a central door set in a plain stone surround and raised coped verges on the roof. No. 2 is also two storeys with two windows, featuring 16-pane sash windows. The door, located to the right, has a glass insertion and is topped with a flat stone hood supported by one shaped bracket. To the left, there is a single-storey lean-to with a similar door.

No. 3, which is set forward, is two storeys with two windows and includes two 2-storey ashlar canted bays with hipped roofs. It has three 2-light casements on both the ground and first floors, and a central door with a flat stone hood on brackets. There is a band course above the ground floor windows. Attached to the right and set back is a lower two-storey addition, which has a 2-light casement with flat mullions on both floors and a door with a timber lintel to the left. This addition is made from larger blocks of rubble and features long and short quoins. The interiors have not been inspected.
