Description

NAILSEA C.P. - ST 46 NE 6/50 Barn about 20 metres east of Nailsea Court G.V. II

Barn, converted as garden building. C17, remodelled probably 1910 by Arthur Stratton as part of his work at Nailsea Court. Rubble, roughcast, limestone dressings, pantiled roof with raised coped verges. T-plan formed by central cart entry now at rear. West elevation has central gabled former cart entry with door, 2-light overlight, large mullion and transom window to right with hollow-chamfered surround, weathered buttresses and diagonal buttresses. Right return has segmental-headed 12-light window with hollow-chamfered mullions and transoms; left return has 2 ventilation slits and weathervane at gable end. Rear has projecting gabled cart entry, opening blocked with similar 12-light window inserted, diagonal buttresses, remains of 4-centred arched stone door head to left side of entry and ventilation slit; 2 ventilation slits and buttresses to left and right. Interior: rebuilt 5-bay roof has principal rafters, collars and 2 rows of purlins.
