Description
This building is a barn located about 20 metres east of Nailsea Court. It dates from the 17th century and was likely remodeled around 1910 by Arthur Stratton as part of his work at Nailsea Court. The barn is constructed of rubble with roughcast and limestone dressings, topped with a pantiled roof featuring raised coped verges. It has a T-plan layout, with the central cart entry now located at the rear.
The west elevation features a central gabled former cart entry with a door, and to the right, there is a large mullion and transom window with a hollow-chamfered surround, along with weathered and diagonal buttresses. The right return displays a segmental-headed 12-light window with hollow-chamfered mullions and transoms, while the left return has two ventilation slits and a weathervane at the gable end.
At the rear, there is a projecting gabled cart entry, which has been blocked and replaced with a similar 12-light window. The rear also features diagonal buttresses, the remains of a 4-centred arched stone door head to the left side of the entry, and two ventilation slits with buttresses on either side. Inside, the barn has a rebuilt five-bay roof supported by principal rafters, collars, and two rows of purlins.
