Description

This building is a barn located 50 yards southeast of Chelvey Court. It dates back to the 15th century and was extended to the east in the 19th century. The structure is made of coursed rubble with freestone dressings and features a double Roman tiled roof.

On the north elevation, there is an off-center gabled porch that projects forward and is supported by diagonal buttresses resting on tall cylindrical plinths. The barn has a square-headed carriage entry. To the right of the entry, there are two buttresses and an end diagonal buttress, while to the left, there are three buttresses, all of which are flanked by putlog holes and narrow slit vents. At the far left, there is a plain square-headed door on the ground floor, with a loft door above it that has a chamfered surround and a four-centred head.

The 19th-century extension to the east features a central square-headed carriage entry flanked by square windows with chamfered surrounds, and there is a central loft under a dormer gable. Inside, the barn consists of seven bays and retains the remains of arch-braced collar beam trusses, although only the central two arch-braces survive. Additionally, 19th-century tie-beams have been added.
