Description
Four Gables is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 17th century, which was re-windowed in the 19th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble and pebbledash, topped with a double Roman tiled roof featuring brick ridge and gable stacks. It stands two storeys high and has four windows on the front.
On the first floor, there are four 2-light casements, each with eight panes, set beneath a small gable. The ground floor features five 2-light casements with segmental heads of varying sizes. The third bay from the right includes a gabled porch with a heavy cambered lintel at the outer opening and a 20th-century inner door; to the right, there is a lean-to with a half-glazed door.
The right side of the building has two 20th-century plate-glass windows in the lean-to, while the left side has one 2-light casement on the ground floor and two on the first floor, all with flat heads. At the rear, the first floor has two 2-light casements of different sizes on the left and two 3-light casements on the right, featuring wooden ovolo-moulded mullions, which are likely replacements and not original to the 17th century. The ground floor includes a 20th-century multi-pane casement, two 2-light casements with segmental heads, and a 20th-century French window. There is also a single-storey addition to the left, which has a half-glazed door and a 2-light casement. The interior has not been inspected.
