Description

The County Library, which was formerly the Rural District Council Offices, is an early 19th-century building located on Fleet Street. It features ashlar stone walls with a plinth and has rendered string-course divisions that are flush with the surface. The roof is slate with gable ends and stone gable copings. The building has three storeys and four sash windows with glazing bars and stone cills, with smaller windows on the ground floor. There is a carriage entrance on the left side with rusticated stone jambs and a rusticated elliptical head. The second bay contains a doorway, now designated for Ladies, while to the right is another doorway with an elliptical head, good voussoirs, and "Town Offices" painted on it, featuring a two-leaf door with flush panels.
