Description
The building occupied by the County Library Service is a public structure from the late 19th century. It is constructed of regularly coursed squared limestone with gritstone dressings, featuring flush quoins, moulded copings, and kneelers on the gable, which is topped with a cross finial. The building has a side wall with a stepped ashlar stack and a roof covered in Welsh slate. It has two storeys and an attic, rising from a chamfered plinth.
The façade facing the street includes six-light hollow chamfered mullioned windows, with major mullions at both the ground and first floor levels, separated by two moulded stringcourses. At the attic level, trefoil-headed lancets flank an empty niche that has a decorative canopy. The side wall features a doorway with a chamfered quoined surround, a rectangular overlight with a single mullion above, and a nine-panelled door decorated with linenfold patterns.
