Description
The George Hotel and outbuildings to the east is a former coaching inn and stables, now functioning as a hotel and outbuilding, dating from the late 18th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with gritstone dressings, featuring quoins, plain gables, and both intermediate and end ridge stacks. The roof is covered with plain and concrete tiles.
The hotel section is two storeys high and consists of four bays. It has Venetian windows set within painted flush surrounds, with casement frames that include glazing bars. The ground floor features semi-circular lights with a 'V' shaped glazing pattern. The central doorway has a moulded surround and entablature, leading to a 20th-century door.
The outbuilding comprises two structures, with the two bays to the east of the hotel connecting to a later addition of three bays. This section includes a full-height carriage entrance with a quoined surround and a segmental arched head, which is now blocked with 20th-century timber doors that have glazed lights above. Flanking this entrance are rectangular openings with plain stone frames and quoined doorways, each fitted with a plain planked door that has a louvred upper section.
