Description
The kitchen garden wall and loggia at Westbrook House date from the early to mid 18th century and are attached to the 17th-century porch of the house. The wall is constructed of English garden wall brickwork, set on stone courses that rise to approximately 3 meters overall. It runs about 25 meters to the west and features an inset 17th-century stone doorway with a four-centred moulded head near the eastern end, along with a wide plank door with a segmental head at the left-hand side. Half of this section is now hidden by a later swimming pool enclosure. The wall continues south for about 36 meters before returning approximately 26 meters on an east-west alignment, with all three outer corners designed in a curved plan. Centrally attached to the south side of the return is a three-bay loggia, which has a wide pediment supported by four slender fluted cast-iron columns, with an additional column on each return.
