Description
The wall of the kitchen garden at Denton House is a garden wall built in the mid-18th century, featuring elements from the mid-17th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and stands approximately 2.5 meters high, topped with a tapering coursed-rubble coping. The wall encloses the garden and includes a segmental arched doorway leading from the stable yard on the west side, as well as two three-centre arched doorways located in the south-west corner. There is also a section of the wall raised to resemble a rounded gable, which contains a round-headed mid-17th century window with two cusped lights. This window was relocated in 1844-1845 from the library of Brasenose College, Oxford. The wall is included for its group value.
