Description

The south gatepier and attached wall on the west side of the stableyard at Denton House date from the mid-18th century. They are constructed of limestone ashlar and rubble. The ashlar gatepier, which is one of a pair flanking the entrance to the stableyard, features a moulded cornice and a ball finial. The wall has a serpentine plan and is made of banded rubble and ashlar, with a flat coping that rises to the abutments. It also includes a subsidiary three-centre arched doorway, which is adorned with a moulded stone architrave and keyblock.
