Description
Denton House Cottage and the attached outbuilding date from the early to mid 18th century. They are constructed from limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and feature timber-framing with rubble and brick infill, topped by a stone-slate roof. The cottage forms the south side of the stable yard to Denton House and is two storeys high, displaying an irregular three-window front with flat-arched casements (some of which have been altered) and a three-centre arched doorway with a keyblock and imposts. The wall features a stone eaves-cove.
To the left, the outbuilding has a timber-framed front at the first floor. It includes an arched doorway similar to that of the cottage, which is now flanked by garage doors. The rubble gable wall to the left features a 16th-century two-light stone-mullioned window with ovolo-moulded four-centre arched lights and a datestone inscribed with the year 1696, both of which may have been removed from Denton House. The rear wall of the entire range and the right gable wall are made of mid-18th century banded rubble and ashlar, with a hipped roof to the right that includes a brick stack. The interior of the outbuilding has a 20th-century roof structure due to a fire, while the interior of the cottage has not been inspected.
