Description
The stable block and carriage house at Westbrook House dates from the mid to late 18th century. It features squared and coursed stonework with a hipped slate roof. The building is long and low, with a central gabled section that is slightly set forward. It has one storey with a loft and includes a wide central arched opening with voussoirs, a central key, and impost blocks, which contains plank doors and a tympanum. On either side of this central opening are smaller pairs of plank doors with wood lintels, each flanked by plain glass openings that were formerly fitted with sashes, all set within raised plat band surrounds with keys. The plain back wall has one casement window. Inside, the stable block retains its upper loft flooring supported by heavy beams, simple wood winder stairs, and matchboard partitions, although the stable divisions have been removed.
