Description
462 and 462a Dorchester Road is a detached house dated 1779. The building features a rendered exterior with a lower range in rubble and slate roofs. It has a symmetrical front with a one-bay extension to the left and a lower range to the right, which was formerly a wheelwright's shop and forge. The house is two storeys tall and has a window arrangement of 1+2+2. The main range includes two plain casements set in reveals on stone sills, situated above a slate lean-to verandah that covers a central door and flanking lights. A small plaque inscribed "JS 1779" is centered on the first floor. The set-back bay on the left has a four-pane sash window at each level, while the former forge features two 20th-century casement dormers above a two-light casement and a blocked opening. The gabled return has a two-light casement and a wide garage door. There are two main gable stacks, one on the left with a raised verge and another on the wing to the left. The right-hand range, previously referred to as a stone rubble workshop, is now part of the domestic premises. The interior has not been inspected.
